The KVU announces today that Aaron Dale—our musical director, co-founder, primary arranger, performer of all voice parts and too many other titles to name—is retiring from the chorus in order to devote more time to his family.
His final performance as musical director will be Sept. 13 at the State Theater in Elizabethtown, Ky., a benefit for the Living Waters Guatemala Project featuring the KVU and Forefront, the 2014 Barbershop Harmony Society international silver medalist quartet.
Aaron helped start the tiny ensemble that would become the KVU in 2006, and he even hosted the first few meetings in his living room. He's been one of the few constants along the way that have built the chorus from a handful of guys to a third-place finish at the 2012 BHS international chorus contest and a pair of sixth-place finishes in 2011 and 2014.
He will remain involved with the KVU as an arranger and coach.
A national search for the KVU's next musical director has begun, and interested candidates are encouraged to contact executive director David Mitchell at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The KVU will forever be grateful to Aaron for his inspiring creative vision, his tireless work to build a better product for audiences, and for all the memories we've made together as brothers in harmony. No single member in the chorus would be what he is today without Aaron's friendship and artistic guidance.
That said, we all look forward to whatever's next. We released our first studio recording in July, "Now is the Time," and we're preparing for our first international tour in March 2015 that will conclude with a headlining concert at the Holland Harmony Festival in Eindhoven, Netherlands. Much more is on the way from the KVU.
Thanks again for everything, Aaron. We hope we make you proud whatever we do next.
