You don't have to have a music degree or even know how to read music to sing with the KVU. If you (or any male singer you know) are interested in performing with the KVU, please use the contact form and we'll get back with you right away. Or feel free to visit any of our rehearsals (consult the Calendar page for rehearsal dates and location).
We are excited to be providing a unique opportunity for you to enjoy singing with other talented men, and to preserve a long tradition of close harmonizing in America. If you've never experienced this type of ensemble, give it a shot—we guarantee you won't want to be left out!
The standard KVU audition is a "live" audition process and is outlined below. However, on occasion, alternative options for auditoning are offered to accomodate for timelines/deadlines and other chorus needs. Please contact Chris Gregory for more information on the current options for auditioning.
All auditions include the following 3 basic portions:
STEP 1 - INTERVIEW You'll have an interview with one of the leadership team. This is casual and could be in person when you first visit, or over phone. They will discuss the KVU philosophy and expectations. Any concerns with continuing to audition will be addressed at this time.
STEP 2 - VISUAL AUDITION You'll demonstrate you can perform some basic choreography by learning a short passage of visual movement, then performing it along with a music team member for evaluation.
STEP 3 - MUSIC AUDITION You perform your voice part in a live quartet to a portion of a KVU song. We’ll evaluate your vocal quality, pitch and rhythm accuracy, ability to blend, and your general visual involvement as you perform.
* After step 3 the board votes whether or not you are accepted as a new member. You’ll receive a phone call with the results of your audition in a few days and will be given access to the website members-only section with all learning materials, and are added to chorus email lists.*
